Week 7: Philadelphia, PA & Cary, NC
October 3-6, 2023
For week 7 of the #PowerBetter road show tour, I worked with the Great Lakes district to plan and execute their events in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Laurel, Maryland. While I was at the Philadelphia event in-person, I managed the Laurel event from our Cary office in North Carolina so I could attend the final day of the Discovery Immersion. Immersion is when everyone in the Discovery rotational program gets together at our headquarters for trainings and team bonding, something I didn’t want to miss.
Key Takeaway: At Immersion, we were able to listen to a panel of leaders in various groups at ABB, asking questions and hearing some of their advice. Below are the takeaways that resonated with me the most.
Strive for value, not success
Fail fast and learn from your falls
Core (foundational to the organization), common (necessary and similar functions with the same goal but can be performed differently), distinct (unique strengths) capabilities of a business
Leaders collaborate
Favorite Food: As an obvious answer, my favorite food of the week was something I don’t get often these days, but a nice home cooked meal from Noanie. She made us Greek chicken and potatoes, cucumber salad, tomato feta salad, and pasta salad from my Aunt Kristen as well. Noanie also made us a cheesecake pie and rum cake for dessert. Might be the best meal of the tour so far, thanks Noanie!
Highlights: After the event in King of Prussia, I drove over to my grandma’s house to have dinner with some of my cousins, aunts, and uncles. It was so rewarding being able to hang out with my cousins watching the Phillies game, talk with my aunts and uncles about my travels, and spend time with Noanie after a long weekend of hard work.
In Cary, we continued our tradition of going to karaoke as a group for some team bonding that started when we all first met a year and a half ago at orientation. We’ve done this every time our cohort has been together in different cities, and I hope this tradition continues on with the newer cohort as well. I have made so many new friends within the program and we all get along so well, and it’s so fun when we get to reunite and spend time together.
