Madison Heights, MI
June 20, 2023
After a break from travel, I flew up to Madison Heights, Michigan, right outside of Detroit for a quick one-day event before taking off to Portland for Formula-E.
Key Takeaway: While this was an easy event to plan, we probably could have used a final review call to go over all the information we planned throughout the past few months. It was hard to keep track of all the details, and we didn’t have the correct times for some things. While this didn’t cause any issues and actually ended up making our day easier, this is definitely something to be more aware of in the future as I know we won’t get lucky like that every time.
Favorite Food: When I looked up foods that Detroit is most known for, I was surprised to see a coney dog at the top of every list. But if you know anything about me, you know I LOVE a good chili dog, so of course had to try one (or two) immediately. I went to the local hot spots, Lafayette Coney Island and American Coney Island, and tried one from each for educational purposes of course. Have to say both were delicious, but I think Lafayette scores the top spot for me. Check it out if you’re in the area!
Highlight: I flew in earlier the day before my event, so I had a full afternoon to explore the Detroit area. I spent some time on the Detroit river front walking around for a few hours. There were so many statue memorials to check out, pretty views looking over to Canada, and natural landscapes to walk through. I was thoroughly impressed with this area and enjoyed my time walking around.
