Portland, OR

June 21-25, 2023

After my quick trip to Michigan, I made the longer trip all the way over to Portland, Oregon for a few days to help out at Formula-E. This is a newer sport with electric vehicle race cars, where ABB sponsored the series in the US. We worked hard and played hard throughout the week and weekend, and I felt that I learned and enjoyed so much in my time there.

Key Takeaway: I helped work behind the scenes for this event, ensuring everything goes smoothly for our executives and our customers. There are A LOT of moving parts at these big events and it’s so important to stay in constant communication with your team, take accountability for your part, and take the initiative to be willing to help wherever you’re needed.

Favorite Food: As this was my second visit to Portland, we were able to explore other areas as well, and my favorite dinner ended up being in Vancouver, Washington. We had a big team dinner that was tapas-style, so we had so many different foods to try. I also had the Spicy Prickly Pear Margarita there, and it was delicious, although it may not have topped my friend’s full margarita flight.

Highlight: While this trip took a lot of hard work, it seriously was one of the most fun ones yet. I got to spend a lot of time with the individuals who did my rotation prior to me, and I had the best time hanging out with them and my manager. We all get along so well and kept each other going throughout the week. We made sure to get outside and go on walks, spend some time shopping at the mall, and of course grabbing a good local cup of coffee together every morning.
