Week 5: Omaha, NE & Lexington, KY
September 18-22, 2023
For week 5 of the #PowerBetter road show tour, I worked with the Midsouth district to plan and execute their events in Omaha, Nebraska and Lexington, Kentucky.
Key Takeaway: While in Lexington, I had the pleasure of meeting an ABB employee that graduated a few years ago from the rotational program that I’m currently in. He was very friendly and smart, and seemed to be well-liked and well-respected within his team. After participating in the rotational program, he is now working in inside sales in the Midsouth district and is a valuable functioning member of their team. It’s very exciting to see where this program can take you throughout the company and is inspiring to see the growth and success that someone that was once in my shoes has gained.
Favorite Food: Omaha is most known for their steaks, but it is also actually the birthplace of the Reuben sandwich. I did have a good sandwich in Omaha, but my favorite meal of the week was the Kentucky Fried Chicken I got from Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken in Lexington. I got a slice of sweet potato pie for dessert and while it wasn’t my favorite, I felt like a true southerner for finally trying it.
Highlights: Omaha is a neat little city with lots of bars and restaurants, and I enjoyed my day walking around the Heartland of America Park and the Gene Leahy Mall. I also stopped by the Charles Schwab Field, where the College World Series takes place annually. In Lexington, I took a morning walk around the Red Mile horse track and watched the horses trotting laps for a morning practice. I also visited the Keeneland Race Track, where a thoroughbred horse auction was actually going on. It was super cool to take a peek into this foreign intense world of Kentucky horse racing, getting up close to the track and the horses themselves.
