Portland, OR

January 2-6, 2023

For my first trip of the year, I traveled with my boss and another coworker to Portland, Oregon to perform a site visit for a future event to be held there this summer. We toured various hotels, tried different restaurants, and walked around a few areas to see what we wanted to bring the rest of our company to.

Key Takeaway: From this visit, I learned about the importance of a site visit. At first, I didn’t know if it was necessary and that all of this research could be done virtually. However, after being in different areas (some great, some bad), I realized that when planning and hosting such a big event, it’s important to go there and check it all out for yourself beforehand.

Favorite food: We ate dinner one night at the Portland City Grill, a cool rooftop restaurant with an awesome view of the beautiful landscape surrounding Portland. My favorite food from the whole trip was an appetizer we had there, the Kung Pao Calamari. It was so unique and delicious with the Asian style sauce accompanied with bell peppers and onions.

Highlight: Right outside of downtown, Portland is home to the world’s smallest park called Mill Ends Park. The entire park has a total area of 452 square inches and consists of one miniature tree.
