Week 10: Raleigh, NC

October 24-29, 2023

For week 10 of the #PowerBetter road show tour, I worked with the Mid-Atlantic district to plan and execute their events in my hometown, Raleigh, North Carolina. This is the second of four weeks of the tour where we are on campus at one of tier one universities hosting a recruiting event for students on Friday and a customer tailgate event at the football game on Saturday. In the Mid-Atlantic district we hosted these two events at my alma mater, the great North Carolina State University.

Key Takeaway: This week, I learned about the significance of first impressions and dressing to impress. One of our employees at the road show event received so many compliments about their conversations, their outfit, and mostly just how they carried themselves. To me, this shows how first impressions can make a huge difference on how others view you, and it’s important to care about how you appear to others as a good first impression can be a huge benefit as a young adult in my professional career.

Favorite Food: Besides the state fair, there wasn’t much exploring for me to do since I was back in the town I grew up in. I have no complaints though, as this meant I got some home-cooked meals throughout the week, which doesn’t happen often for me these days. My favorite meal of the week was dinner with my parents my first night back, when my dad made salmon, rice, and brussels sprouts. It was a nice, healthy meal and I enjoyed being able to spend that time with my parents. I also had some great food at the state fair (obviously), and my favorite thing from that was the frozen apple cider. I had never gotten it at the fair before, but I will be getting it every year from now on.

Highlights: This week came in perfect timing for me, as it almost felt like a reset week when the burnout of this tour was starting to kick in. After flying and staying in hotels for nine consecutive weeks, I got to drive home and spend the week with my family and friends, in my hometown and college town. I started the week at the state fair, had home cooked meals with my parents throughout the week, took my brother out to lunch, dressed up with my friends for Halloween, and ended the week watching the Wolfpack beat Clemson on Saturday afternoon. Basically, I did all of my favorite NC things in a matter of days and felt so happy, refreshed, and ready to take on the final four weeks of the tour.
