Week 11: Jacksonville, FL & Gainesville, FL
November 1-4, 2023
For week 11 of the #PowerBetter road show tour, I worked with the Florida district to plan and execute their events in Jacksonville and Gainesville, Florida. This is the third of four weeks of the tour where we are on campus at one of tier one universities hosting a recruiting event for students on Friday and a customer tailgate event at the football game on Saturday. In the Florida district we hosted these two events at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Key Takeaway: This week, I talked a lot with one of our Field Services Engineers at one of the events. It was interesting to learn about his position and what he does for the company. He travels the country working on various kinds of projects, small and large. They ensure our electrical equipment is working properly and perform any necessary maintenance if anything needs to be fixed or updated.
Favorite Food: At our event on Friday, we catered Mi Apa, a Latin American staple on UF’s campus. For lunch we had Cuban sandwiches, rice, beans, guava pastries, and cafe con leche. All of the food was absolutely delicious, and I’m glad I got to try it while on campus. We also had some yummy potato donuts from Halo Donuts, my favorite one being the Lemon Blueberry flavor.
Highlights: Before going from Jacksonville to Gainesville, I spent the afternoon walking around St. Augustine. It is a beautiful little town with a lot of charm, surrounding the prettiest college campus I’ve ever seen. I even got to drink from Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth! After exploring there, I was excited to head over to the University of Florida in Gainesville. There are so many kids in the rotational program that graduated from UF, so I was glad to finally be able to check out the town and campus. I got to meet up with my good friends, Drew and Sharon, and explore some local bars and restaurants with their college friends. It was a lot of fun catching up and exploring UF with friends I don’t get to see too often. While I didn’t get to go to this football game, I enjoyed my time in Gainesville and hope to check out the Swamp some time soon.
