Week 12: Houston & College Station, TX
November 7-12, 2023
For week 12 of the #PowerBetter road show tour, I worked with the Houston district to plan and execute their events in Houston and College Station, Texas. This is the fourth and final week of the tour where we are on campus at one of tier one universities hosting a recruiting event for students on Friday and a customer tailgate event at the football game on Saturday. In the Houston district we hosted these two events at Texas A&M University in College Station.
Key Takeaway: As I’ve said before, I sometimes struggle with fully understanding the our products as I don’t have much of a technical background. I know I’m able capable of learning more, it’s just not something that comes as natural to me. I was talking with one of our Building Automation sales managers and he reassured me that it’s okay to not know everything about everything, especially this early in my career. He explained how it’s more important to know how to ask the right questions to the right people. In my marketing roles, it’s useful to know how to talk with our product managers and learn more about what impacts our customers and how the information we relay affects them.
Favorite Food: Right when I landed in Houston, I made sure to head over to Chinatown to get some noodles and Bing Su from one of my favorite places. Bing Su is a Korean dessert that consists of shaved ice, sweet cream, and fruit that my friend Ellie and I were obsessed with when we lived there, so it was fun to be able to go back. However, my favorite food of the week was cooked by the Weber Grill Masters we had at our tailgate for the Texas A&M game. They provided samples of grilled pepper and mushroom lettuce wraps, smoked jalapeño cheddar sausage, Philly cheese steaks, and grilled pound cake with berries. It was absolutely incredible, and the Philly cheese steak samples they made were one of the best things I’ve ever had.
Highlights: As I seem to say every week, this week was a really fun one. After living in Houston for about a year, I made some great friends there and I enjoyed being able to catch up with them while in town. I also got the chance to meet up with my friend from college who now lives in Austin and also happened to be in Houston this week for work. I drove by my old apartment and walked around the Galleria Mall, where they were setting up the Christmas tree and ice skating rink inside the mall. To top it all off, we had our fourth and final college stop of the tour at the Texas A&M vs. Mississippi State football game on Saturday. At the tailgate we had Weber Grill Masters come and provide grilling samples and lessons for our customers, then got to enjoy the electric atmosphere in Kyle Field. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to finish off the college portion of the 2023 #PowerBetter tour.
